The Warriors for Christ Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy was founded by Alvin Tillman, Jr. in September 2009 after Alvin saw a great opportunity for spreading Gods word through the art of BJJ. Alvin also wanted to make the art of BJJ more affordable so that all could learn to enjoy the sport that he has grown to love very much. As we all know to train in any type of sport is very expensive especially if you have a large family. So, Alvin took a big leap of faith and left the comfort zone of training in a environment that he knew was always going to be there and began the journey of forming the Warriors for Christ, remembering this scripture (Mark 10:29-30 No one who has left his home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail.
Many people could not understand why Alvin was making the choices that he did to leave his BJJ family of 13 years to walk out on that thing called faith. But, he knew that their was a calling on his life to serve a greater purpose. After many sleepless nights and much praying, God opened the door that Alvin was looking for and he then met his current coach, Jorge "Macaco" Patino, in which was a God send if there ever was one. Jorge opened his arms to Alvin and embraced him like a brother into his BJJ family. From that time Alvin has been carefully watching and studying all that Jorge has been putting before him in their daily encounters.
Alvin has few main objectives that he wants to accomplish with this Academy, and that is to let the world know how awesome God truly is , and also to help strengthen the family values of each and every student that walks through the doors of the Warriors for Christ BJJ Academy. As a parent ,leader, Coach, or instructer we must remember that all eyes are on us and we must lead by the example that we want others to follow. So Alvin will alway try to set the standard for all of his students to follow, whether it's on the mats or off.
